As a Battery System Engineer, you will contribute to developing cutting-edge structural batteries for aerospace and defense applications. You will play a crucial role in the electrical design, building, and testing of complete structural battery modules, unlocking the full potential of Volta's load-bearing cells.

You’ll work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating closely with the cell development team and the mechanical team to tackle complex challenges and integrate these worlds into high-performance energy storage systems for demanding applications.

You will be an advocate for Volta Structural Energy’s unique structural battery technology, driving innovation and advancing our expertise.

  • Design structural battery modules across four key levels: 
    • battery module topology, overall functional design, and appearance;
    • Module compatibilization with target applications;
    • cell wiring and integration, targeting reliability and efficiency, 
    • Battery Management System (BMS) design, integration and communication protocol development.  
  • Collaborate with the CTO, product development team, and cell engineers to create cohesive designs that meet performance, safety, and manufacturability requirements.
  • Define testing protocols for module performance, safety, and durability.
  • Perform simulations and experiments to validate design concepts and ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., UL, IEC, ISO).
  • Analyze and resolve issues identified during testing and production.
  • Participate in the scale-up process from prototype to full-scale production.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to product development, procedures and testing.

Stay updated on the latest advancements in battery technology and aerospace applications and deliver adoption plans of promising prospects.

who you are

Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering

essential experience

  • 3+ years of experience in battery system design
  • Experience with PCB design and embedded systems
  • Proven experience in structural and electrical design and CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with BMS hardware and software development, including protocols such as CAN, SPI, or I2C.
  • Familiarity with battery safety standards and certification processes.
  • Knowledge of battery testing methods and data analysis.

  • Proficiency in thermal and structural simulations (e.g., ABAQUS, ANSYS, COMSOL, or similar).
  • Familiarity with aerospace industry standards 
  • Excellent communication and proactive attitude
